The College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia (CLPNBC) is alerting potential employers and the public that a Bowser woman is not a registered LPN and may not practice in B.C.

The CLPNBC took the step of posting a public safety announcement on its website Friday, April 13, 2018, “in an effort to protect the public.”

The announcement stated that Catlin Popp of Bowser is not a current registrant of CLPNBC, and that, as a result:

• Popp is not entitled to work or practise in British Columbia as a licensed practical nurse or to refer to herself as a “nurse,” a “licensed practical nurse” or an “LPN,” and

• She does not have authority to provide practical nursing services that may only be provided by LPNs or other qualified health professionals holding current registration, who are subject to regulatory oversight under the Health Professions Act and who have met the requirements to provide those services safely, competently and ethically.

The CLPNBC announcement said Popp previously held registration as a licensed practical nurse, from July 5, 2013 to December 31, 2013, but she did not renew her registration, which was cancelled effective January 1, 2014.

The college said it is required to post such notices to protect the public, and added that, “It is essential that anyone seeking to hire a licensed practical nurse confirm that they are registered with CLPNBC before hiring them, to ensure that they have been authorized to practise by CLPNBC.”
