A man and his daughter have been released from hospital and another man remains in critical condition after a weekend collision police believe was caused by speed and alcohol.
On Saturday just after 8 p.m., a man, 39, and his two-year-old daughter were heading northbound on 134 Street near 66A Avenue in a Ford F150 pick-up truck.
At the same time, a Ford Edge was heading southbound in the wrong lane when it careened off the driver’s side of the truck and continued down the street, where it veered off the road and slammed into a tree.
The 39-year-old Surrey man driving the Edge was taken to hospital. On the way, his heart stopped, but he was resuscitated.
He remains in hospital in critical condition.
Police believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors on the part of the man driving the Edge.
Charges are being considered, but have not been yet been recommended.
Police say it’s time again to remind drivers to make plans to get home safely after they’re out celebrating this holiday season.
“There’s so many options – designated drivers, transit, cab, spending the night where you’re going to be,” said Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet. “If you know where you’re going to be, take the right steps, make the right decisions.”
CTV obtained footage of the crash from nearby security cameras and can be seen here.
