Columbia Avenue and Hwy 3 hot spots for crashes in Castlegar

In 2019, there were 624 accidents in Castlegar and 3047 over the last five years.

The streets in Castlegar where you are most likely to crash your vehicle are no surprise — Columbia Avenue and Highway 3.

That’s according to the latest stats on vehicle incidents recently made available as part of a new ICBC website that shows extensive crash information for the province from 2015 to 2019.

In 2019, there were 624 accidents in Castlegar and 3,047 over the last five years.

During that period, 917 accidents occurred on Columbia Avenue. But if you include the number of accidents that happened on side streets at their intersections with Columbia Avenue, the total number would be higher.

But it appears the places you may need to be the most careful are local parking lots — there were 1,265 accidents in parking lots over the last five years.

Troublesome intersections include the 18th Street, 8th Avenue and Columbia Avenue intersection near the Shell station and the Super 8 where 51 accidents occurred and the Columbia Avenue, 20th Street and Highway 3 on/off ramps where 90 accidents occurred.

Over the five year period there were 492 accidents that involved some degree of personal injury and 2,555 that only resulted in property damage.

Pedestrians were involved in 19 incidents and cyclists were involved in nine.
