Colwood will shuffle staff after chief administrative officer Rob McPhee resigned in mid November. Citing privacy concerns, Mayor Carol Hamilton would not divulge McPhee’s reason leaving. She did say that when McPhee started about two years ago he made it clear he only intended to stay for a short period.
“It’s consistent with what his objectives were at the time and he was a quiet leader in the city,” Hamilton said. “Everybody’s good with it and looking to move on.”
The city will wait until the new year to begin the search for a new CAO, she said. In the meantime there could be some staff shuffling within city hall.
“That will put us together with a good understanding of what we’re expecting out of the next person coming along,” Hamilton said. “Colwood’s got so much coming forward we really need somebody who can rise to that challenge.”
Michael Baxter, Colwood’s director of engineering, will fill the CAO role until the position is filled.
