More green space for ‘Latoria North’
There will be an increase in park land for the area just north of Latoria Boulevard in the Royal Bay development, following approval from Colwood council on Monday night.
The approved changes to the original plan, established in 2014, also include a realignment of trails, protection for trees around Murray’s Pond, and a link between that green space and Meadow Park.
The update to the plan was seen as positive for its preservation of park land, but was met with concerns from Coun. Cynthia Day about emergency access to the area near Rockwood Terrace. It was determined the access issue could be dealt with at a later date in the larger, sub-division planning process.
Beach Food Fridays and Saturdays to return
After being well received this summer, Colwood’s beach food events will be back at Esquimalt Lagoon in 2017 with some minor tweaks.
A call for vendors in the coming weeks is expected to allow for more consistency in scheduling and an increased number of food options, while potential enhancements to the site, including walkways, seating and signage, could be brought forward for next year’s budget.
Royal Bay staff have also expressed interest in having food vendors at their Beachpark further south off Metchosin Road. City staff will work with the Royal Bay team to co-ordinate schedules and vendors.
New street names in Latoria subdivisions
A few new streets in subdivisions near the Latoria Road and Bezanton Way intersection have been given names. Branching off Bezanton will be Ridge Pointe Place, Elevation Pointe Terrace and Ridge View Terrace.
Coun. Rob Martin said some of Colwood’s newer roads, many named Place, Terrace or Way, don’t conform to designation standards when compared to what’s seen in other communities. Iain Bourhill, director of planning, pointed out that the City’s naming policy does not cover street designations and that council direction would be needed to update the policy.
