Saanich’s councillors were handed their files last week as chair appointments were made for the municipality’s committees.
With only one new face on council, Mayor Frank Leonard said he wanted to keep things as simple as possible.
“You can’t do much in one year (as a committee chair), so given that there was only one new councillor, I spoke with Nichola (Wade) and she was willing to basically assume the appointments that Wayne Hunter had. And the incumbents all wanted to do a second year with their existing files,” Leonard said.
Wade picks up a seat on Saanich’s administrative traffic committee.
Coun. Susan Brice continues to chair the planning, transportation, and economic development advisory committee; Coun Judy Brownoff has bicycle and pedestrian mobility; Coun. Vic Derman covers arts, culture, and heritage; Coun. Paul Gerrard looks after parks, trails and recreation; Coun. Dean Murdock has Healthy Saanich; Coun. Vicki Sanders leads environmental advisory; Leif Wergeland is on finance, audit and personal standing committee.
Leonard says he will likely shuffle committee appointments next year.
