Jody Macdonald has been named the new executive director of the Comox Valley Community Foundation.
“It is a very exciting time for the foundation, with many opportunities and changes ahead,” said Dr. Norman Carruthers, president of the foundation’s board of directors. “Jody’s depth of experience, passion for our community and strong leadership capabilities are vital in achieving both our short-term and long term-goals.”
Macdonald’s academic background includes a masters of science in environmental/rural sociology and a bachelor’s in conservation biology. She has more than 15 years experience managing social science, community planning and assessment projects for academic, non-profit and private sectors.
Since moving to the Comox Valley in 2009, Jody used her multi-disciplinary training as a research, project management and community engagement consultant for a variety of local issues, including: options and obstacles for foster care youth transitioning out of care in the Comox Valley; community consultation for Comox Valley seniors “Better at Home” program; planning and assessment to improve Comox Valley primary health care; youth perceptions of the built environment that helps or hinders active transportation; and an opioid prescribing protocol for the Comox Valley.
Macdonald also holds a certificate in public participation from the International Association of Public Participation and has taught sociology at North Island College. She has taught a multitude of courses at the University of Alberta from human dimensions of global change, to business communication and wildlife biology.
In her free time, she is outside on the trails or at various sporting events with her tireless spouse, daughters and family dog.
Macdonald will assume the role of CVCF executive director effective July 6.
