Community halls receive funding for upgrades

Thompson-Nicola Regional District has approved $20,000 towards energy efficient upgrades to the Avola School Community Hall and the Blue River Community Hall

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District’s board of directors has approved $20,000 from the Federal Gas Tax, Community Works Fund, which will go towards energy efficient upgrades to the Avola School Community Hall and the Blue River Community Hall.

Avola will install new doors and a window, while Blue River will receive funding for new wall insulation.

“This money is going to great use as it will help make both of these community halls more functional, and also more energy efficient,” said Max Lentz, Electoral Area “B” (Thompson Headwaters) director.

The Avola School Community Hall is owned and operated by the TNRD while the Blue River Community Hall is owned and operated by the Blue River Community Association. Each will receive $10,000 towards the appropriate upgrades.

To date the Thompson-Nicola Regional District has approved $2.5 million for 56 projects under the Federal Gas Tax Fund, which provides funding in support of municipal infrastructure that contributes to cleaner air, cleaner water and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
