Michael McFadden

The beneficiaries of Michael McFadden’s volunteering generosity are widespread across our city.

Michael has volunteered in the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Willowbridge Transitional Housing program since 2014, exercising his natural insight to connect people with the resources they need.

When volunteering with Inn From The Cold, he followed a person he was matched with to Willowbridge and has been taking that participant on weekly outings for the past four years.

He has also reached out to other Willowbridge clients, identifying many ways he could access community groups to help provide support and assistance.

Michael’s other volunteer deeds for Willowbridge residents are many—arranged with St. Paul’s United Church to supply a full dinner for the residents every second month and deliver bread and pastries from Cobbs Bakery every Monday; arranged for BC fruit growers to supply fruit and vegetables when in season; arranged for Hoffman Orchards to supply cherries and apples when in season along with apple juice from the farm; at Christmas organizes for 45 gifts for residents with St. Paul’s United Church and for knitted toques and gloves for all residents working with the Telus Ambassadors knitters.

Michael remains active also in the United Church, serving on the board of directors for the church outreach program, providing transportation for parishioners to attend services and setting up the “adopt a road” city program and organizing clean-up crews for it.

He also serves as an event volunteer for the MS Society, Kelowna Grandmothers’ For Africa, the Colin Basran charity golf tournament, Kelowna Ogopogo Rotary Club, Central Okanagan Boys’ and Girls’ Club and the Central Okanagan Refugee Committee.

All that tireless work by Michael to serve others is done always with a smile on his face and a genuine commitment to serve others.
