The Chilliwack school district is looking for three community members to give their time to help crunch numbers.
The two groups that deal with finances, the budget committee and audit committee, both have openings for volunteers and the deadline to apply is May 17.
The budget committee is in need of two “suitably qualified” community volunteers who are able to meet at least four times a year, as circumstances require. In addition to the community volunteers, the budget committee includes three trustees, and one principal or vice-principal, a Chilliwack Teachers Association representative, a member of CUPE Local 411, a member from the District Parent Advisory Council, a member from the aboriginal community, one person from management, and several local students.
They are also looking for one community member to serve on its audit committee, which comprises three trustees and one community member, if possible, who is financially literate in these processes.
The primary purpose of the audit committee is to assist the school board in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities by overseeing the internal control environment, reviewing the financial statements and the external audit process. It makes its recommendations directly to the board.
Application forms for both roles are available on the school district website at www.sd33.bc.ca, and due by noon on May 17.
