Railroad tracks being replaced from Clearwater to Blue River

The Vavenby General Store is having a covered deck with picnic tables built for people to sit and enjoy their coffee and food. It has taken contractor Todd Cardinal two weeks to build and he will paint it next.

Ten members of the town’s fire department took the First Responders Level 3 course. All members were successful and have been issued an Emergency Medical Assistant license from the B.C. government. But before a TNRD fire department can go on medical aid calls it needs a contract with the B.C. Emergency Health Services ( BCEHS ). TNRD Area A representative Carol Schaffer and members of the Vavenby fire department community committee are currently working on getting it. However, the Blackpool Fire Rescue, another TNRD fire department, has been waiting nearly a year to receive theirs.

There will be an open house and barbecue at the fire hall on May 5 from 12 – 3 p.m. The new wildfire trailer and its equipment will be unveiled. A copy of the plans for the extension of the hall will also be on display.

Donations for the new trailer were made by Interior Saving, CN Rail, Canfor Mill, and Hugh and Shelley Graffunder of Sierra Simmentals.

A lot of heavy machinery is present at the Vavenby railroad crossing. The old tracks are being replaced from Clearwater to Blue River. The job should take up to 20 days. Employees work from 1 p.m. – 3 a.m. and have been fortunate in Vavenby that weather conditions have been good. Some people living near the tracks find it quite noisy at night.

It is spring and the wild animals are out so make sure your garbage is secure.
