Sicamous citizens can pay their respects and share their grief and determination over Wednesday’s shooting in Ottawa and the hit-and-run death of a soldier in Quebec at the Sicamous Cenotaph on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m.

Murray Williams, president of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 99, said the service is to to help unite Canadians following the loss of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, who was shot while serving at the National War Memorial earlier this week. The alleged shooter then entered the Parliament Buildings and exchanged gunfire before being shot and killed.

It is also to mark the loss of Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent, who was killed Monday when he was struck in a targeted hit and run in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que.

The Sicamous event is being held Tuesday to coincide with the regimental funeral of Cpl Cirillo, which is being held in his hometown of Hamilton, Ont. that day.

The service is still being organized, but will likely feature the singing of O, Canada and a moment of silence.

All are welcome to attend.
