Freight delay on CP tracks pushes back arrival of West Coast Express

The first train of the West Coast Express lumbered into Waterfront station in Vancouver 24 minutes late Thursday morning because it had to wait for a freight train to clear the tracks.

West Coast Express uses CP Rail’s track for the rush-hour only service between Mission and downtown Vancouver.

TransLink said train No. 1 was delayed at Port Coquitlam station. Previously, a switch issue delayed the same train by 10 minutes. Train No. 1 departs Mission at 5:25 a.m. every weekday.

TransLink’s Chris Bryan said the same freight issue delayed Train 4 by about 25 minutes.

West Coast Express doesn’t run on weekends.
