The first candidate has just been announced for the soon-to-be-vacated seat on Comox council – local family doctor, Jonathan Kerr.
“I care deeply about the health of our community, the health of all Comox residents, the health of our local businesses, and the health of our beautiful natural environment,” states Dr. Kerr. “Comox residents are telling me they are concerned about housing affordability, tackling climate change, supporting small businesses, tax fairness, and protecting our parks, forests, and shorelines.”
Kerr has experience in leading physician-recruitment efforts and is committed to addressing the doctor shortage in the Comox Valley.
“I have recently helped recruit four new family doctors that are coming to Comox this fall. One of my top priorities is ensuring every person in Comox has a family doctor.”
Dr. Kerr’s current patients can rest assured that he will be continuing his regular work schedule.
“I love being a family doctor. Now that my kids are a bit older, I have more time on my hands and I hope to serve our community in an additional way on Comox council.”
Outgoing Comox councillor Pat McKenna commented on Kerr’s announcement.
“I have known Dr. Kerr for many years and he is the perfect person to fill my seat on council. Jonathan is dedicated to the health and well-being of the residents of Comox and I know he has the listening skills, passion, intelligence, and decision-making ability needed for the role. I endorse Dr. Kerr for Comox council 100 per cent.”
Kerr has also been endorsed by the municipally-focused Comox Greens elector organization for his strong leadership in support of sustainability, addressing climate change, respecting diversity, and advocacy for social justice issues.
The date for the by-election has not been announced but is expected to take place later this fall.
Dr. Kerr is currently undertaking a Community Health “Check-Up” to collect input from Comox residents on what is most important in creating a healthy community. To participate, Comox residents are invited to email Dr. Kerr at healthycomox@gmail.com.
