Comox Valley cold-weather protocol kicking in

The Dawn to Dawn: Action on Homelessness Society needs donations to help the homeless as temperatures drop.

The Dawn to Dawn: Action on Homelessness Society is looking for donations of trailers and/or sleeping bags, in exchange for a tax receipt, to help homeless individuals as temperatures drop.

“The weather is playing havoc on people living outside,” outreach worker Grant Shilling said. “It’s scary out there now.”

Gently used or new sleeping bags can be dropped off at AIDS Vancouver Island at 355 Sixth St., opposite the Courtenay library, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday.

Trailers will be used to house people at Maple Pool Campground in Courtenay. The priority population is vulnerable seniors.

For questions about trailers, call Shilling at (250) 218-3136.

The Extreme Weather Protocol — developed to help homeless individuals stay dry and warm — was to kick in Monday this week.
