The Comox Valley will soon be on the silver screen again as a feature film is set to film throughout the Valley in September.
Joan Miller, commissioner for the Vancouver Island North Film Commission, confirmed to the Record a romantic comedy entitled Float will film for three to four weeks in September.
In a letter to Comox council, Miller noted while the film is confirmed, originally the production was set to shoot in August, however, due to the tourism season, they made the decision to move to September in order to film in the shoulder season.
She added the production will bring “a nice boost for hotels and services throughout the Valley; we are extremely pleased and excited for our new Comox Valley skilled and certified production assistants who graduated from our partnership training with North Island College this spring (and) we look forward to seeing them working onset.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is an adaptation of Kate Marchant’s story that originated on the Toronto-based digital storytelling app Wattpad, which accumulated 25.5 million reads.
The movie will portray Waverly after her parent’s divorce who is yanked from her life in Alaska to spend the summer in her aunt’s sunny beach town, only to clash with an arrogant, jaded, beach bum named Blake.
It will star Canadian-American actor Robbie Amell who played Ronnie Raymond/Firestorm on The Flash. He is also a producer for Float.
