Comox Valley RCMP says ‘thanks’ to community

Tough situations made easier by thoughtful residents

Last week, on July 26 and July 29, the Comox Valley RCMP were dispatched to three very complex and difficult files. At times, it can be very tough for emergency services to arrive at scenes like these and discern what is going on. While attempting to investigate the scene, they must also ensure public safety. This is especially difficult when an emergency occurs in busy areas, such as Cliffe Ave and the Comox Valley Parkway, during peak traffic times.

In these instances, help from the public is appreciated. The Comox Valley RCMP noted that the level of support, before emergency services arrived, during these tough files last week, were beyond amazing. People came forward to assist in every way imaginable, from immediately diverting traffic, to performing first aid and assisting victims and family members that were on the various scenes. Furthermore, witnesses stayed, assisted and then were able to provide statements to help further the investigation. Although key areas of town were closed for several hours, the understanding and patience of everyone affected was greatly appreciated.

“When people come forward during a crisis situation and do everything they can to assist, it shows what an incredible community we live in”, stated Comox Valley RCMP Officer in Charge Tim Walton. “Rather than being a bystander or filming the event for social media, people from all walks of life did what they could to help. Some were trained and some did what they could to assist both police and the victims in these emergencies. Thank you all very much.”
