The Comox Valley Regional District board last spring adopted changes to rules regulating motorized vehicle use in parks to discourage destructive and illegal activities.
The changes include increased fines for operating a motorized vehicle on a trail, in a closed park or below the high tide mark. The fine is now $1,000. The ticket for causing damage to a park facility or natural features with a motorized vehicle is now $500. Anyone found cutting a tree may face a $1,000 ticket.
“We are asking motorized vehicle owners to respect the rules or be prepared for increased fines,” said Mark Harrison, CVRD Manager of Parks. “The regional district spent more than $10,000 repairing damage last year at the Royston to Cumberland Railway Trail and Headquarters Townsite Park. Protecting wildlife habitat and ensuring the safety of park visitors is our top priority.”
