High school students from School District 71 achieved impressive results at the 2018 Skills Canada regional competition last weekend.
Hosted at Georges P. Vanier Secondary School on March 10, students from the Comox Valley’s three secondary schools were among 140 competitors who took part in a variety of skills competitions in the trades and technology fields.
Skills Canada competitions allow students to showcase their talents in the skilled trades and technologies.
Historically, local secondary students have placed very well in the competition. Last year, Highland Secondary Student Judd Foster won the regional and national Skills Canada electronics competitions and eventually represented Canada at the WorldSkills competition in Abu Dhabi.

This year saw another successful outing for Comox Valley students. GP Vanier, Mark R. Isfeld, and Highland Secondary finished with either a gold, silver or bronze in all of the competing categories this year excluding TV/Video.
Winners in each competition area were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals, with the majority of gold medal winners qualifying to compete in the annual provincial competition, which takes place April 18 in Abbotsford.
