The Hudson Trunk sewer line construction project is completed.
The new forcemain, installed in the Knight Road/Idiens Way area, increases capacity in the Comox Valley Regional District’s (CVRD) sewer service by redirecting flows from east Courtenay directly to the sewage treatment plant rather than through the current Courtenay pump station. Construction on the project started in January and was completed with paving along Idiens Way and Parry Place last week.
Along with improving the sustainability of the sewer service, the CVRD worked with the Ministry of Transportation to widen the shoulder along Aspen Road and Idiens Way. This created a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists travelling along this popular corridor, as well as a potential link to City of Courtenay greenways in the future.
“We’re glad to see this new infrastructure successfully installed – and we’re particularly happy to have added the community amenity of a gravel pathway on the shoulder along Idiens Way, to help improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists in this narrow and busy area,” said Charlie Gore, the CVRD’s manager of capital projects. “We know construction can be disruptive – and we thank everyone for their patience throughout the process.”
