There weren’t any dawgies or lassos in evidence, but there was no shortage of rodeo action at the Gardens in Qualicum Beach Thursday.

Oceanside RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman said the annual event is held to ensure the many mobility scooter users in the area have the skills necessary to be safe while touring the community.

“I did a little safety chat about the rules of the road,” he said. “They are getting free maintenance from Life Support to make sure their tires are inflated and they’re good to go.”

Following this, the participants took their rides through a series of obstacle course challenges.

“We are making sure they are good in terms of maneuverability,” Foreman said. “If they need some pointers they get help. Some of them are old hands in scooters and some of them are relatively new.”
