Qualicum Beach Coun. Scott Tanner has brain cancer, Mayor Teunis Westbroek reported at Monday’s town council meeting, the last such gathering for this group.
Westbroek said Tanner called him earlier that day to share the news.
“He sounded like Scott,” said Westbroek, who mentioned the councillor hadn’t lost his sense of humour.
Tanner remains in hospital and has recently undergone surgery to remove the tumour, according to Westbroek, who added that Tanner is feeling “very positive” and hopes to be home for Christmas.
In other news from a light agenda Monday night:
• Council adopted a bylaw outlining Qualicum Beach’s financial plan (2014-2018).
• A bylaw that establishes an Emission Reduction Reserve Fund in Qualicum Beach was adopted. According to Financial Administrator John Marsh, this ensures all monies received as revenue for carbon neutral initiative can be kept in reserve until such time it is used in a local emission reduction project.
• Council adopted a bylaw that allows the town to spend the unappropriated balance in the Land Sale Reserve Fund on the Yambury Road storm drainage capital works.
