Confusion over collection leads to garbage grace period in Langley City

Switch from four-day, to five-day trash collection schedule in New Year left many residents holding the bag

City of Langley residents who were caught off guard by recent changes to the municipal garbage collection schedule will be given a grace period for disposing of all that extra trash.

At the beginning of the year, the City moved from a four-day-a-week collection schedule to five days. The addition of a fifth collection zone means many collection routes were changed, resulting in a shift of “garbage days” in some neighbourhoods and several calls of complaint to the City from unhappy residents.

For the remainder of the month, City residents will be permitted to put out more than the normally allotted two 80-litre cans of waste, at no charge.

Up-to-date garbage and green can collection schedules are available on the City’s website at city.langley.bc.ca. Hard copies may be picked up at City Hall, 20399 Douglas Cres.

Residents can also go online to the City website and sign up for a free customized reminder service.
