There’s a lot of construction going on in Spallumcheen.
The latest figures show seven building permits worth $891,000 were issued in the township in October. That compares to 10 permits worth $1.2 million during the same month in 2012.
“We’re still leading the charge when it comes to building,” said Greg Betts, chief administrative officer, of the township’s activity compared to other local communities.
Of the seven permits, six were residential and one was agricultural.
Year-to-date, there have been a total of 59 building permits issued in Spallumcheen worth $9.4 million. That compares to 62 permits valued at $5.5 million during the first 10 months of 2012.
Dog park considered
There may be some interest in developing a place for dogs to call their own.
Spallumcheen will forward a request from resident Elaine Turner to a joint meeting with Armstrong to discuss the issue of an off-leash dog park.
“We have areas where we could do that and it would get people away from the IPE grounds,” said Coun. Joe Van Tienhoven.
In her letter, Turner says there is no where for residents to take their dogs.
“I live in a strata and like many other responsible dog owners that live in like situations, we would like our dogs to be socialized and be able to run safely off-leash with other dogs,” she said.
December meeting cancelled
There will be one less get-together for Spallumcheen politicians.
Council has decided to cancel the Dec. 2 regular meeting.
“Some members of council may be away and we may have a quorum issue,” said Greg Betts, chief administrative officer.
A regular meeting will be held Dec. 16.
“If another meeting is needed, council can call one,” said Betts.
