The City of Penticton is holding a contest to name its room in the new David E. Kampe Tower at the Penticton Regional Hospital.

The city earned the privilege of naming one of the in-patient rooms because of a donation of $31,000 to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation (SOSMF).

“We thought it might be fun to see what ideas are out there,” said Mayor Andrew Jakubeit. “We’re hoping for something that is meaningful to Penticton.”

Residents who participate will have the opportunity to win one of two, one-month family passes to the community centre. One will be awarded to the successful submission and the second will be awarded through a random draw of the participants.

The contest will be run in four steps:

Step 1 – March 12 to 25

Enter your submission through shapeyourcitypenticton.ca or drop it off at Penticton City Hall.

Step 2 – March 26 to April 2

A panel of council and staff members will pare down the names and vet them with SOSMF.

Step 3 – April 3 to 13

The public will be invited to vote on the final list through shapeyourcitypenticton.ca.

Step 4 – April 17

The winning name will be announced during the council meeting.

The name will be engraved on a plaque, so keeping it short will be important. Up to eight words is suggested. Go to shapeyourcitypenticton.ca for more information.
