A Boxing Day bust at Mission Institution’s medium security unit has led to a large seizure of contraband items.
Correctional Service Canada said the contraband included amphetamines and methamphetamines. The estimated institutional value of the seizure that took place on Dec. 26 is nearly $20,000, according to officials.
In a release, CSC noted that it uses various methods to prevent drugs from being smuggled into its correctional institutions.
“These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors,” the release states.
“CSC is strengthening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.”
