A controlled burn along Swamp Road got out of control Tuesday afternoon in South Kelowna.

A crew of at least seven knocked down smouldering remains while two farm workers stood by to assist.

The fire spread over a flat area of pasture land 20 by 150 meters and started up a bank toward houses on Hughes Road. It was quickly brought under control.

Despite dark skies and occasional rainfall, the Central Okanagan remains dry. Burning farm refuse with a permit is allowed when weather conditions are conducive. We are all reminded to be careful with any fire throughout the spring, summer and fall in the Okanagan.
