Motion passed by Qualicum Beach town council in September 2010

  • Feb. 26, 2013 10:00 a.m.

A story in the Thursday, February 21 edition of The NEWS about the proposed Raven coal project (‘Water hazard’) contained a factual error.

A sentence in the story stated that no communities in the Parksville Qualicum Beach region have passed motions in regards to the project.

In fact, the council of the Town of Qualicum Beach passed a motion in September of 2010 requesting the mayor to write to the premier, the Minister of State for Climate Action, and the Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources expressing opposition to the proposed Raven Underground Coal Project.

At the same meeting, council also passed another motion about the proposed project relating to the environmental assessment and watersheds.

The NEWS regrets the error.
