Endurance rider airlifted to Kelowna General Hospital after being thrown from mount into tree.

The Central Okanagan Search and Rescue team and B.C. ambulance crews were dispatched out to the 2014 Champion Equestrian Endurance horserace last weekend held at the Jackpine Lake area of West Kelowna.

A woman in her 40s was thrown from her horse into a tree when the equine became spooked for some unknown reason.

She suffered upper body injuries and was unconscious for a period of time.

She was airlifted to Kelowna General Hospital by helicopter from the accident site assisted by ambulance and COSAR personnel.

The status of the horse rider’s injuries has not been confirmed.
