Vernon’s Jim Cotter will be inducted to the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame April 12 in the Grand Hall at Thompson Rivers University.
He becomes the first of four individuals announced to the class of 2014. One team will also be named to the class.
KSHF organizers will announce the rest of the class in the weeks leading up to the banquet.
Cotter, whose Vernon rink is in playing in the 2014 Tim Hortons Brier, was runner-up to eventual Olympic champion Brad Jacobs in the Canadian Trials this past December in Winnipeg after winning a pre-event qualifier in Kitchener in November.
He is one of the original products of Jam Can Curling in Kamloops dating back to the mid 1980s during his pre-teen years.
Cotter won three B.C. High School curling titles and won the first of two B.C. junior men’s championships at the age of 16.
His rinks made three other appearances in the B.C. junior finals, with runner-up showings in 1991 and 1992 before winning in his final year of junior, in 1995.
Cotter becomes the 10th individual with a Kamloops Curling Club background to crack the Hall.
The others were Diane Barker (2007), Rick Cotter (2006), Sue Vickers (2004), Sandra Plut’s Canadian junior champions (2000), Barry McPhee (1999), McPhee’s 1981 and 1986 B.C. Champions (1997), Sam Beemish (1995) Ernie Colman (1993), Cy Glover (1992) and Ralph Gerrie (1991).
