Development cost charges (DCCs) for new development are moving closer to fruition in Spallumcheen.
Planners Urban Systems have come up with a 17-page report proposing DCCs for single- and multi-family residential units, along with industrial, commercial, agricultural and institutional development.
“They have come up with a number that equalized rates for industry and agriculture,” said township administrator Greg Betts. “They’ve also adjusted the growth projection.”
In the report, the proposed DCC rates for single-family residential homes per unit would be $5,298.32; for multi-family residential per unit, the rate would be $3,443.91.
The DCC for industrial based on per meter-squared gross floor area is $22,95; commercial and institutional rates would be $15.89; and for agricultural, the rate would be $16.81.
Council voted unanimously on a staff recommendation to send the Urban Systems report to the ministry of community, sport and cultural development for its review.
A stakeholder meeting has been scheduled for Jan. 27, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the township office to go over the report.
Mayor Janice Brown said it is important to remember that the DCCs are being considered because of the amount of roads in the township.
“This is for new development only and there will be lots of public consultation on the charges around that end,” said Brown. “It’s too make sure that when people are increasing their traffic on the roads that we’re looked after as a municipality.”
