Revelstoke council approved the development permit of the proposed Ramada Inn hotel, bringing it one step closer to construction.

“This is development that some of us on council have been awaiting quite a while for. This is a good news story and I’m happy to see this go through,” said councilllor Gary Sulz.

The hotel is planned for the Revelstoke Crossing site, located off the Trans-Canada Highway, southeast of the Subway restaurant. It is being built by a development group consisting of hotel and restaurant owners from Golden, B.C. The proponents include the owners of the Ramada Inn, Days Inn, Rockwater Grill and Whitetooth Bistro in Golden.

“It’s nice to see some regional development proponents coming forward,” said coun. Linda Nixon.

They are planning a four-storey, 85-room hotel on the site, with a chain restaurant to be built at some point in the future. The project still requires approval by the Ministry of Transportation.

“I’m looking forward to this project getting finished and being part of our business community that’s going to offer more and good services to the travelling public and the tourists that are going to come and stay and enjoy our environment here that we all enjoy,” said Mayor Mark McKee.
