What went on in the council chambers

Public Hearing

A public hearing was held at the regular council meeting of February 14 for Bylaw 482, Zoning Amendment Bylaw for 2191 Townsend Road.

The amendment will change the zoning on the 2.71 acre property from Village Residential R-1 to Community Facility Zone P-2.

Council gave third reading to the bylaw which will allow the proponents to build a new Catholic Church. It will replace the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church which sits on T’Sou-ke First Nation property along Sooke Road. The band will be using the building for other purposes.

The applicant is proposing to build a facility with worship space, hall, kitchen, meeting rooms, offices and parking.

The watercourse, a tributary of Notts Brook, running from east to west will be realigned. There will be cooperative parking usage between the church and CASA located next door.

Development Variance Permit

Council was unanimous in granting a variance for 5677 Sooke Road. The developers, (John and Melanie Haugland) were looking to decrease the minimum road right-of-way for the proposed subdivision road to be 10 metres instead of 14 metres. The applicant is looking to build a five lot subdivision.

Bylaws

Amendment

Council rescinded third reading of Bylaw 447, 2830 Phillips Road and amended the Phased Development Agreement for the bylaw. A public hearing is to be scheduled.

The applicant (Riversedge Estates Ltd.)has plans to create three lots and the proposed zoning will allow the density on the property to be increased from one unite to four units.

Council adopted Bylaws 456 and 461 for 6978 West Coast Road. The developers, (Daniel and Bonnie Perrier and Brian and Catherine Scotney) wish to build a 13 unit subdivision.

Council adopted Bylaw 481, a zoning amendment for 2039 Idlemore Road.

Council adopted Bylaw 483, Revenue Anticipation Borrowing Bylaw, 2011.
