Cell towers proposed
Council have endorsed plans for two cell towers to be constructed in Abbotsford.
One tower, proposed by Wind Mobile, is a 35-metre tower set for 1744 Gladwin Rd., south of Highway 1. Also proposed is a 30-metre tower at 416 Clearbrook Rd., by Rogers Communications, south of Huntington Road, near the U.S. border.
The towers require approval from Navigation Canada and Transport Canada before a building permit can be issued.
Townhouse development plans postponed
Final approval from council on a proposal to build up to 555 townhouses on Sumas Mountain will be delayed after the proponent accidentally sent campaign contributions to election candidates earlier than planned.
Rompsen Financial has plan to build out its Falcon Ridge development on properties north of Lower Sumas Mountain Road.
After a public hearing, council deferred the decision on the project until October.
But Jerry Bordian, who spoke on behalf of Rompsen, explained to council Monday that the company inadvertently sent out campaign donations to candidates – which were earmarked to be sent later – after the public hearing cutoff period where council cannot receive new information about a project.
He said the timing was a clerical error and so Romspen decided to withdraw from the third reading process until after the election and will have to go through the public hearing process again.
While Bordian said the company habitually makes contributions to election campaigns, out of respect to the election process they decided to defer the application until December. Bordian said they remain committed to the project and are confident development will move forward.
