The District of Sooke aims to take remedial action on a piece of property on Church Road for longstanding unsightly premises.

The property owner of 2364 Church Road in Sooke has until March 1 to complete the municipality’s recommended removal of trash and debris, council announced last week.

Medea Mills, District of Sooke’s bylaw enforcement officer, said the property has been the subject to neighborhood complaints for some time, over things such as garbage piled in the rear and front yards, discarded furniture and other items, including the residential use of an RV.

The report also pointed out the property has been frequented by the RCMP due to “activities” happening on the property.

So far however, Mills added the owner is so far cooperating with the remedial action.

“The property owner said he was appalled by the condition of his property and ensured me of his co-operation and efforts to help clean up the property.”

Mills highlighted that if the remedial action isn’t completed by the owner by the end of this month, which includes vacating and removing the RV from the property, the district may remove the unsightly premises at the owner’s expense.

“When those assurance dates come along, and he fails [to remove the unsightly premises] I’ve got the resolution in my hand, and that would be enforced immediately.”
