Steve Paccagnan, President and CEO of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort spoke to the Town of Golden council about recent happenings with the resort and plans for the future.
As announced recently Calgary-based, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies have entered into discussions to potentially acquire Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, based in Golden, B.C. Subject to certain regulatory approvals, the transaction is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Paccagnan came in front of the council to answer questions about the pending sale.
He explained that this would be the beginning of a “new chapter and new era” for the resort.
“What this means for our community resort which has become a destination resort is that we get somebody that is local in terms of being Canadian who has taken a keen interest in the resort based on its potential,” Paccagnan said. “It brings a big brand, the Canadian Rockies brand, to continue to move the resort forward and start to take it into a bigger arena.”
He went on to explain that at the end of the day the resort is moving ahead with its Master Development Agreement and things will be going like they normally would be at this time.
Councillor Caleb Moss asked Paccagnan if anything was going to change in the near future for the community.
Paccagnan explained that in the near future things will be running similar to what they have been while adding “I think there is an opportunity when the timing is right…I would like to get the Canadian Rockies group together with this group here and have an opportunity to have some discussion and welcome them into the community.”
According to Paccagnan KHMR has annual visits of approximately 175,000 people a year.
