Plans for a spa have been sent back to the drawing board again.
On Tuesday, council refused to accept an application for a health and wellness spa at 3701 27th Street that would have had six parking spaces, including one in a tandem pattern.
“The amount of traffic in and out on 37th Avenue will increase dramatically,” said Mayor Akbal Mund, adding that the proposed parking isn’t sufficient to handle clients and staff.
This is just the latest setback for the property owner. In mid-April, council denied a variance from seven to five parking spaces.
On Tuesday, council was told that the footprint of the building had been reduced by 221 square feet to 3,300 square feet to allow for six parking spaces.
“Most times, we will have six staff and five clients on site,” said owner Rod Pleasance.
“We also have the capability to put staff off-site at paid parking.”
However, nearby residents expressed concern that overflow parking from the business would clog up their roads.
“Six spots with a tandem arrangement do not address the situation,” said resident Jeff Moore.
