District of 100 Mile House councillors will soon be walking around and meeting with every local businesses in town.
This will be part of the Business Walk Initiative, a new program developed by council to meet business owners and discuss ways the District could assist them.
The Business Walk program acts as means of surveying a wide number of businesses in a short period of time.
District economic development director Joanne Doddridge proposed the idea to council, as it has been a growing program in British Columbia.
The program has was adopted in 2012 and more than 20 communities in B.C., a majority of them having populations of 5,000 or less, have adopted it.
Business owners will be asked several questions relating to how their businesses are going, and about any major opportunities or challenges they are currently facing.
“It will be something different for council,” says 100 Mile House Mayor Mitch Campsall.
Now that the memo has been passed, Doddridge will assemble a team of council members to carry out the walk with and then select a date for an event. She will also work with local media outlets to inform the community and local business owners when the walk will occur.
The walk has already received an offer of assistance from the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training.
The walk will is set to happen later this fall. More information will be given about the date of the walk in the coming months.
