Ten unsightly premises and four zoning bylaw infractions were found by district staff at the first of two annual bylaw enforcement drive-around inspections.
The noted cases were only the most obvious or problematic ones; others existed in town, the district’s operations director Paul Carver said.
Staff is also reviewing the district’s bylaw enforcement policy for amendment:
“The District of Vanderhoof does not have the resources to formally review properties on a regular basis in order to determine whether or not its various bylaws are being complied at all times. Therefore, it’s the Policy of the District of Vanderhoof to rely on citizen complaints as a means of enforcing its bylaws.”
The pool’s finalized design will be put out for tender by Dec. 1.
The latest layout was updated with recommendations from a lifeguard:
– The hot tub, lazy river, and deep end of the lap pool are now located in the same location to facilitate guarding.
– The sauna door is now at a 45-degree angle to allow the entire facility to be viewed from one location.
– A water fountain is added.
– Entrance of the lazy river is made smaller.
– The six-foot space between pools is adequate for swimming lessons.
Other changes so far include additional washrooms to accommodate second-floor requirements.
A sand filter, rather than regenerative DE, would be used as it requires less maintenance and a lower capital cost. Though it uses more water, replacement parts are more accessible to this area and sand filters are used by the town’s water system as well.
Lifeguard requirements based on facility size are yet to be determined.
Next meeting will take place on Aug. 4 or earlier, if the latest cost estimate is available.
Security cameras for Fall Fair grounds
Nechako Valley Exhibition Society is looking to install a comprehensive security camera system to increase public safety, as well as security of animals and property.
With a letter of support from the district, the society is applying for a $10,000 grant from Northern Development Initiative Trust for the system.
