He says it’s lack of engagement that motivated him to run.

“How do we move forward as a region with engagement?” he asked.

Quesnel City Councillor Scott Elliott announced Sunday he’s seeking the nomination for the BC NDP in Cariboo North.

“Christy Clark isn’t working for people,” Elliott said during the announcement in which BC NDP Leader John Horgan attended.

“Every day people are paying more and getting less. I am proud to put myself forward to help form a government that puts hard-working people first.”

“Scott Elliott has what it takes to build a better BC,” John Horgan said.

“He has the community connections and leadership experience needed to stand up to Christy Clark.”

Elliott said his first order of business if elected would be a meeting with city council, elected leaders and First Nations to focus on the conversation of moving communities forward.

“In four years our MLA has not been to a council meeting. I would do things differently,” he said.

Addressing the time commitment MLA requires, Elliott spoke the dire need to make sacrifices.

“My wife Amber is 100 per cent supportive of me,” he said.

“We have a such a need in this community and region to get things done. My wife and I are willing to sacrifice our time for our commitment.”

Elliott is an active community advocate and two-term city councillor.  He was also a successful independent business owner, operating a fly fishing company on the Sunshine Coast before making Quesnel his home.

He connects with the community and works at the Quesnel government liquor store. While not at work or advocating for his community on city council, Elliott has been an active volunteer with minor hockey, youth activity groups, soccer, lacrosse courses, restorative justice, fly tying and fishing courses.
