There is an unusual offer for entertainment for Queen Charlotte residents tonight.People are invited to join Councillor Ellen Cranston at Queen B’s from 6-8 pm, for finger foods and grant applications. BC Ideas is sponsoring the event to encourage applications to their online competition, which will giving grant money to ideas for social innovations in communities. Ms Cranston says they are looking for ideas in health, educations and partnership building, and she will be there encouraging people to make applications with their ideas.Laptop computers will be available for people to use to do the applications, but forms will available for people to fill out by hand as well. Ms Cranston said if people don’t want to do either, they can just come in and tell her their idea and she will try to make an application for them.”Go ahead and think about the craziest thing you could have hoped for Queen Charlotte, and do up an application,” she said. “Even if we don’t get them down on an application we can incorporate them into our planning at the village.”BC Ideas will be giving out more than $200,000 after the September 12 deadline and one local application has already won. The Swan Bay Rediscovery Program has won an early investment grant of $500 and is in the running for one of the top prizes of $15,000.
