Support continues to grow for Cherryville residents and their fight against a logging road.
On Monday, Enderby, Lumby and Spallumcheen councils voted to write letters of support for Cherryville, which claims B.C. Timber Sales’ plans for a road and logging on Cherry Ridge could create landslides.
“There hasn’t been much consultation from the government and the people on the ground there know the area and the potential problems,” said Howie Cyr, Enderby’s outgoing mayor.
BCTS has insisted proper hydrological assessments have been done and there is no risk of a slide impacting residents.
Enderby, Lumby and Spallumcheen are calling for a moratorium on road construction until Cherryville can conduct a watershed assessment.
“The community hasn’t bought into the BCTS study being accurate. There are experienced loggers out there,” said Nick Hodge, a Lumby councillor.
“The risk of slides in that area is quite high. There have been two already over the years.”
Vernon council also voted recently to write a letter of support for Cherryville.
