A working relationship between the councils of Splatsin and the Township of Spallumcheen is expanding.
The two groups will sign a joint protocol agreement today, the purpose of which is to establish protocols for communication and cooperation with each other based on the fundamental principles of trust, honesty and mutual respect.
“Splatsin and Spallumcheen are engaging in a dialogue to create a better future for the region and our people,” said Splatsin Chief Wayne Christian.
The agreement has identified the following shared objectives:
• Effective, efficient communications;
• Economic development collaboration opportunities including the future use of the rail corridor;
• Developing a shared vision for Highway 97A alignment and key intersection alignments;
• Long term servicing strategies for water, sewer and fire protection based on each communities official community and land use plans;
• Development of a policy concerning the protection of cultural resources, including archaeology; and
• Develop shared principles in areas of mutual concern respecting environmental stewardship and sustainable communities.
“The township’s councillors and myself look forward to continuing our working relationship with Chief Christian and his council,” said Spallumcheen Mayor Janice Brown.
Over the years, the two communities have worked together and have a history of meeting to discuss joint endeavors.
