Wondering what to do while being unsocial and at home due to COVID-19? Vanderhoof’s Nechako Community Arts Council has the Anonymous Art Show happening again this year, and canvasses are available if you want to get an early start for the show!

The Anonymous Art Show is a Vanderhoof based project that incorporates budding and experienced artists from all over Canada.

Magdalena Saito, one of the organizers of the event said that artists can pick up canvasses in Vanderhoof at Bird on a Wire, the Dollar Store, Wallace Studios and Integris Community Centre.

The art pieces will be showcased at a silent auction, that will be held around September, if everything works out, Saito said.

Last year was the first year for the local art show and there were over 100 artists hat took part in it from varied age groups between 3 and 90.

And you don’t necessarily need to paint on the canvas, Saito said.

“I would love for people to try out putting something onto canvas, and not to restrict themselves to paint if that’s what’s stopping them! There are so many great ways to experiment, paper crafts, yarn, stones, resin, Photo transfer, the sky is the limit and last years had some prices being purchased that now live overseas in foreign countries! Introducing the world to Vanderhoof one art piece at a time!”

This year, there are some canvas pick-up locations in Fort St. James as well, and the arts council hoped to have more areas covered, but due to COVID-19 there is limited travel to sites.

A Facebook Page called NCAC – Anonymous Art Show – Vanderhoof, has been created for people to stay up-to-date with information. Saito said volunteers can reach out on the page for more information as well.

“This year we are hoping to try an online auction to bring in some fundraising from outside of our community to put towards our community. I’m very excited at some of the artists we are getting, it’s hard to keep the secret as some of them have had art work featured in well known television shows, and galleries across Canada.”

Saito also urges businesses to attend the show to collect a few art pieces for their place of business each year. “In the future we would love to create an Art Walk. To showcase businesses that have art to sell or show, and entice visitors to walk about and check out our town and all of our mini art galleries.”
