Three long-term care homes in Abbotsford are listed by the province as still having COVID-19 outbreaks.
The weekly COVID-19 outbreak report now being provided by the province indicates that, as of Jan. 6, Tabor Home – the site of Fraser Health’s largest outbreak in long-term care – has recorded 156 cases (93 residents and 63 staff) and 26 deaths.
The outbreak began in early November, and no more cases have occurred since Dec. 14, but Fraser Health has not yet declared the outbreak over.
Cases at Menno Home’s E2 residence are now at 67 (41 residents, 26 staff), and there have been 12 deaths.
The outbreak there was declared in mid-November, and resulted in management looking to hire and pay family and close friends as “temporary relief workers” due to staff shortages in housekeeping, food services and laundry.

The third local care home still listed as having an outbreak is Mayfair Senior Living Care, which has had 11 cases (seven residents and four staff) since the outbreak was declared on Dec. 18. There have been no deaths.
The province reported on Thursday (Jan. 7) that it would once again be providing weekly detailed reports on outbreaks in long-term care, assisted-living and independent-living facilities.
The first report, for the week of Dec. 30 to Jan. 6, indicates that a total of 602 people – all residents – in long-term care and assisted-living facilities have died from the virus in B.C. since the start of the pandemic.
Those deaths represent 62 per cent of the 970 COVID-related deaths in B.C., as of Thursday (Jan. 7).
The weekly COVID-19 outbreak reports will be posted to the BC Centre for Disease Control website.
