The Cowichan Lake area will benefit from $20,050 in grants in aid, this year, from the Cowichan Valley Regional District.
Several Cowichan Lake area-specific grants in aid were approved by the Cowichan Valley Regional District board of directors during board meetings earlier this month. Grants in aid to Cowichan Lake South/Skutz Falls (Area F), and Youbou/Meade Creek (Area I) were agreed upon, with the areas’ directors choosing the recipients.
In the many cases where both electoral area directors selected the same recipient for grants in aid, the recipient will receive funds from both sources.
Approval of the following grants in aid were awarded through the Cowichan Lake South/Skutz Falls Electoral Area:
• $1,250 to the Cowichan Lake Salmonid Enhancement Society to assist in funding fry salvage operations.
• $1,250 to the Cowichan Lake Lady of the Lake Society to assist with costs for the Lady of the Lake Ambassador Program.
• The Lake Days Celebration Society will receive $450 to assist with costs to sponsor the community breakfast during the 68th annual Lake Days event.
• $3,000 will go to the local CICV 98.7-FM radio station to assist in acquiring a Class A radio license, which will enable an increased signal.
• The Lake Cowichan Secondary School Dry Grad will get $1,000 to assist with costs to sponsor dry grad team building adventure activities.
• Lake Cowichan Secondary School will get $500 to provide a bursary for a student residing in Cowichan Lake South/Skutz Falls (Area F) electoral riding.
The following grants in aid requests for the Youbou/Meade Creek Electoral Area were approved:
• $5,000 to the Cowichan Lake District Chamber of Commerce to assist with the town’s info centre.
• $1,500 to aid the Cowichan Lake Salmonid Enhancement Society’s fry salvage program.
• Duncan’s Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association was awarded $1,000.
• The Cowichan Lake Lady of the Lake Society will receive $500 to assist with funding candidates.
• Lake Cowichan Secondary School grants in aid totaling $400.
• The Cowichan Lake District Seniors’ Association will get $1,200 to assist with cost recovery.
• Local radio station CICV 98.7-FM will get $3,000 to help acquire a Class A radio license.
