Veterans and Armed Forces personnel in the Cowichan Valley can ride BC Transit buses free during Veterans’ Week, and everyone can ride free on Remembrance Day.
The Cowichan Valley Regional District and BC Transit are providing free service to veterans and Armed Forces personnel from Nov. 4-10. This does not apply to commuter routes 66, 99 and 44.
“While the style of celebration may be shifting during this time, the CVRD and BC Transit will still be offering free service to honour those who have served and continue to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces,” read a statement from BC Transit. “The free service will provide those that served in the Canadian Armed Forces a transportation option as they recognize Remembrance Day and Veterans’ Week.”
All scheduled routes and handyDART services will be free to all riders on Nov. 11. Scheduled routes will run on a Sunday schedule, and handyDART services will operate on a Saturday schedule. Commuter routes and local routes for Ladysmith, Youbou and Honeymoon Bay will not operate on Nov. 11.
BC Transit also supports bus drivers who choose to stop their bus, if it is safe to do so, for the traditional minute of silence at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11.
