Cranbrook RCMP responded to 177 calls for service during the week of Monday, Aug. 17 to Sunday, Aug. 23. Acting Sgt. Scott Milliken provided the details.
Aug. 17
9:02 a.m. Another RCMP detachment requested assistance in a matter.
9:25 a.m. Report of a hit and run. A Harley Davidson was struck by a grey SUV backing out of a parking lot.
9:30 a.m. A shoplifter was reported.
10:37 a.m. A caller reported seeing a driver throw a cigarette butt out the window.
11:09 a.m. A caller reported that a young boy was bitten in the face by a hound dog.
12:29 p.m. A complainant reported harassment via text.
2:04 p.m. A suspected shoplifter assaulted a store worker trying to stop them him from leaving. Police apprehended the man.
3:35 p.m. A break and enter at a residence was reported.
4:31 p.m. A dog locked in a hot car in a parking lot was reported. The windows were cracked, but the caller wasn’t sure there was water available to the dog.
4:49 p.m. Police responded to a report that a man had punched another man.
5:44 p.m. A possible impaired driver was reported in a white pickup headed towards Kimberley.
6:12 p.m. A complainant received a call from fraudsters claiming to be from Fortis BC and demanding a $2,000 payment or the gas would be cut off.
6:22 p.m. A driver was seen throwing a cigarette butt out the window.
7:40 p.m. A man was reported to have fallen in an alley. However, 10 minutes later the man got up and went on his way.
8:57 p.m. A cigarette butt was seen thrown out the window of a vehicle.
10:44 p.m. A family disturbance was reported in which kids were swearing at their parents.
11:21 p.m. A loud party was reported.
Aug. 18
1:55 a.m. A driver was determined to be impaired and given a 90 immediate roadside prohibition and a 30 day vehicle impound.
2:20 a.m. Two women were reported having a fight.
4:45 a.m. A break and enter was reported in Industrial Park.
6:36 a.m. A transport truck was reported swerving into oncoming traffic and having trouble maintaining lanes.
9:56 a.m. A fraudster claiming to be from Readers’ Digest called the complainant and demanded $750 or their subscription would end. The complainant did not have a subscription.
10:41 a.m. A complainant reported they’d been called by someone claiming to be from PC Financial, however they knew it was a scam because they didn’t have a card.
12:55 p.m. A break and enter was reported at the Industrial Park.
1:45 p.m. A caller reported hearing gunfire behind the Jaffray Golf Course. Police patrolled but no one was found.
1:59 p.m. A wallet, found at the Wycliffe Rodeo grounds, was turned in at the detachment.
3:13 p.m. A fraud involving cashing cheques was reported.
4:20 p.m. A suspicious person was reported after a man in a truck slowed to ask a girl if she wanted to “have a good time” and asked for her number. The girl declined.
5:04 p.m. A potentially suicidal male, who was violent, was taken to hospital under the Mental Health Act.
5:08 p.m. A small bag of marijuana was turned into the police station.
Aug. 19
2:01 a.m. A driver reportedly threw a cigarette butt out the window.
7:21 a.m. A truck was reported broken into.
10:58 a.m. Report of a shoplifter.
12:27 p.m. Report that youth had been skateboarding and sleeping overnight in a building they broke into.
2:12 p.m. Report of harassment and threats after an unauthorized person posted pictures on Facebook of another person.
2:14 p.m. An officer on patrol found a woman passed out from intoxication. She was lodged in a cell until sober.
4:55 p.m. A single vehicle accident was reported on Highway 93/95 near the Eagles Nest Campground.
5:22 p.m. A vehicle was reported tailgating, speeding and passing on double solid lines near Jaffray.
10:07 p.m. A driver was reported for tailgating and speeding near Highway 95 and Theatre Road, then gave the finger to the complainant.
Aug. 20
9:00 a.m. Another agency requested assistance in delivering a court summons to an individual.
10:08 a.m. A Ford Mustang from Alberta was reported for driving all over the road, weaving, speeding and using the shoulder to pass between Cranbrook and Creston.
12:08 p.m. A man reported that someone had stolen $200 from his pants.
12:34 p.m. A caller reported someone had driven on their lawn.
8:03 p.m. A wallet was reported stolen from a locker at the swimming pool.
8:25 p.m. A woman, found passed out, was arrested for being drunk in public.
9:28 p.m. A naked, angry and intoxicated man was reported running down an alley. He was located by police.
Aug. 21
12:45 a.m. Report of a woman who was passed out. Police turned her over to BC Ambulance for treatment at the hospital.
1:53 a.m. Report of a domestic dispute. Police later charged a man involved with assault.
6:51 a.m. A driver reported his windshield was smashed when a stone fell from the back of a gravel truck.
10:05 a.m. A shoplifter was caught trying to steal jeans and hoodies from a local store.
10:11 a.m. A found watch was turned in and is at the detachment.
3:30 p.m. A horse was reported to be loose 10 miles west of Cranbrook.
3:40 p.m. A traffic incident was reported after a driver tried to merge and cut someone off.
4:51 p.m. A caller reported finding contents of a car, including a duffel bag full of clothes, dumped on the side of the road, and found it suspicious.
6:46 p.m. A truck coming from Yahk was reported for having an unsafe load.
9:58 p.m. Report of a loud party on the 300 block of 5th Avenue South.
Aug. 22
1:37 a.m. A 90 day immediate roadside prohibition was issued to a driver determined to be intoxicated.
2:20 a.m. Police assisted a homeless person — he was the target of verbal abuse by a group in a red Toyota driving by.
5:21 a.m. A caller reported that there was a vehicle in a parking lot which had had its door left open.
10:47 a.m. Two people riding in an ATV were injured when it rolled over. They were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
11:02 a.m. A pedal bike was stolen from a house in the 900 block of Cranbrook Street North. It had an estimated value of $100.
11:19 a.m. A vehicle was reported swerving near the Jaffray area. The caller worried it could cause an accident.
1:37 p.m. Police attended the Highway 95 overpass where an elderly woman was pulling a suitcase. The caller thought it was dangerous.
2:06 p.m. A single vehicle rollover was reported. The vehicle, registered in Idaho, went off the Wasa Lake Road. The single occupant was brought to hospital.
2:55 p.m. Police did a wellbeing check on a 60 year old man who hadn’t been seen in awhile.
3:32 p.m. A fender bender occurred on the 2100 block of Cranbrook Street North. One of the vehicles was from out of province.
8:10 p.m. Ongoing threats via text message were reported. The messages began in May.
8:17 p.m. An erratic driver was seen on Victoria Avenue and 2nd Street North.
9:21 p.m. An assault between a male and a female was reported on the 400 block of 4th Avenue North.
9:42 p.m. A loud party was reported on 2nd Avenue South and 4th Street South.
Aug. 23
12:22 p.m. A caller complained about a noisy party on the Wardner-Fort Steele Road.
1:42 a.m. An intoxicated male was reported at a local hotel.
10:31 a.m. A couple had gotten their vehicle stuck in a ditch. The caller reported it because the couple both had slurred speech.
12:40 p.m. A caller reported hearing shots fired. It was someone doing target practice.
12:54 p.m. The couple who earlier couldn’t get their vehicle out of the ditch were now reported to be passed out at the Moyie Provincial Park beach as a result of intoxication.
2:27 p.m. Two children’s bikes were stolen from a local department store. The their walked out the door with them.
2:41 p.m. A caller reported that a neighbour had strapped a lawnmower motor to his bicycle and was riding it around a trailer park.
4:29 p.m. A black Dodge truck with an Oakley sticker drove into the rear of another vehicle in the parking lot near Tim Hortons near the mall. The truck then drove away.
4:29 p.m. A silver Subaru with BC plates was reported for erratic driving coming into Cranbrook. It was passing and driving all over the road.
5:53 p.m. A caller reported that they may have seen marijuana plants on someone’s deck.
7:22 p.m. Two males were seen carrying four tires down the road. The caller thought it was suspicious.
11:34 p.m. A male was reported passed out in the middle of a street in the industrial park.
