The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) has recently endorsed some project funding allocations for its 2012 budget.
The 2012 Community Works funding allocations were approved at the Oct. 6 board meeting, based on the recommendations of the committee of the whole.
CRD chair Al Richmond says Community Works funding is for non-profit groups to upgrade energy efficiencies, with money provided by the federal government from its gas tax collections.
This includes general allocations, as well as some green projects already identified; however, all must target reduced carbon footprints or clean water.
Funds set aside include $500,000 earmarked for the water treatment facility at 108 Mile Ranch.
“We identified some specific water treatment for the 108 … they’re looking at treating the manganese that we have in our water here.”
Another $120,000 has been allocated for three water-monitoring wells, one of which will be placed at Watch Lake.
Other specific projects include a new high-efficiency furnace unit for the Interlakes Fire Hall, to the tune of $50,000.
General allocations that are open to funding applications for energy-efficient projects include $1.04 million for improvements based on CRD energy audits and $150,000 for community hall improvements.
Then at the Oct. 28 meeting, the board also approved numerous specific projects that have been identified and targeted for CRD’s 2012 Grants for Assistance budget allocations.

All of these funding allocations will not be approved and distributed until after the budget is released in March 2012.
