The Faces of the Nativity come to light this weekend with over 200 international artistic interpretations of the creche featured in a unique display.

Beginning today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on South Main Street, the public can see the works of all sizes crafted of materials from crystal to coconut shells.

“We celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ at this time of year and putting this together honours His birth,” said church member Karen Northcott, who chairs the committee overseeing the annual event. “It’s beautiful and people come to hear the serene music very low in the background and ponder and feel the true reason for the season.”

Taking three days to assemble, the many display tables in the church’s darkened main hall are tied together by the tiny Christmas lights accenting the creches.

New this year is a large replica of a tent similar to those used by the nomadic Bedouin people of the Middle East during the time of Christ’s birth.

“We thought it would be appropriate to highlight that part of the world,” said Northcott. “It is an interesting accent to the displays and has actual artifacts inside. We always like to do something a little different each year.”

The display is open 1-8 p.m. today and Saturday and 2-7 p.m. Sunday.
